Every classroom has created a display celebrating our rights and how we can celebrate our successes. Barn Owls used the book Yuko-Chan and the Daruma Doll to inspire their work. Take a look at their work and the end result display!

Y5/6 visited the F Pit to launch their topic on Local Mines and Victorian Times. They had the chance to see the original equipment to lower the miners deep underground and raise the coal to the surface. They found out about coal – how it was created and how it was used. They held a piece and couldn’t believe how light and clean it was.
Bill came into to share story of his mining heritage and the lives of miners and their family. The children held artefacts and had a go at using many of them. He taught them songs about mining, which they performed together at the end of the day. The children were fascinated by the fact the miners didn’t wash their backs in case it made them weak!

KS1 had a fabulous afternoon learning all about wind turbines!
Earlier in the term, we looked at ways that we could help our planet and this week we were lucky enough to have a visitor from Jill and Gillian who told us all about how wind turbines help!
The children got to build a wind turbine, try on all the equipment and experience a virtual reality as to what it looks like where the wind
turbines are located at sea!

KS1 made excellent explorers today! We were scientists testing waterproof materials, explorers tasting expedition food and we had a visit from Washington Wetlands Centre who taught us all about animals, including the penguins we have been learning about. We ended our day by adopting our very own penguin from WWF.
The children had excellent knowledge and really impressed our visitors with their super facts and behaviour.
Well done KS1
! xx
