Music

‘Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.’

Plato

At Biddick Primary School we develop creative musicians who participate in music and singing sessions, we support children’s personal development and their ability to express themselves creatively. We develop and nurture key skills to perform, compose, transcribe and describe music.

Music is currently taught in classroom sessions, weekly singing rehearsals and through extra-curricular activities.

Singing is an integral part of musical teaching in our school and provides opportunities for children to work together, develop a sense of community and to achieve common aims. The children enjoy taking part in weekly singing sessions in all Key Stages and we have both Infant and Junior Choirs running after school.

Our Reception/Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 choirs provide opportunities for children to work and perform together in assemblies for their peers and take part in concerts for their parents and the local community. In addition, it provides a platform for older children to become ‘Young Leaders’ and participate in teaching songs to younger children. We hope that taking on these responsibilities will develop their confidence and encourage younger children to participate in and enjoy musical activities.

Following the successful introduction of classroom instrumental teaching in Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2, we are now offering guitar tuition from a specialist music teacher in the Upper Key Stage 2. It is hoped this will build upon musical skills developed in the classroom and provide additional opportunities for children to perform and enjoy taking part in music.
